Personal
To my Mum who, now in her mid 80’s is an inspiration to all who meet her. Thank you for your love, and keeping me on the straight and narrow (well almost), and to my brother Geoffrey, who although now wheelchair bound and paralysed after a stroke a few years ago still keeps smiling despite his handicaps. A big thank you also to my Father who died in 1976, and my Stepfather Tom who died in 1998. Your memory will live on forever.
To Peter Taylor for being my best friend throughout the years. Your continuing friendship, support and advice (and welder) are very much appreciated, and also to his wife Jan and their children. As near to family as I have. B.M.W’s forever!! (we know what we mean).
To Barry Passman. A great mate who over the years must be getting a little tired of hearing my plans, but never the less supporting me throughout. When the mini is finished our Friday night conversations at the bar will seem different, and your garage will be empty of stored mini bits.
To David Dykes for your help and support, and the blood (oops), sweat (definitely) and tears (almost). Lets get out there and have some fun now.
To all my rallying mates at Team PG Rallying, especially Robin Barrett. If I’m ever dope tested at a rally, will I test positive for WD40? Keep the funnies coming!
To the friends, workmates and acquaintances I have known over the years, who’s advice I have been able to call upon whilst working on my project.
To all my work colleagues, especially Grant, Paul R, and Carter. Thanks for your interest and encouragement.
To my neighbours for putting up with the comings and goings, the hammering from the pit (sounds like a scene from War of the Worlds!) and the lights shining late into the night.
And finally to my nephew John and Brother in law Rod. Without you guys the project would never have moved on (Literally). We moved the shed to make way for the garage, the car from the drive onto the patio so we could get the garage built, and finally the car from the patio into the garage. Not easy without a rear subframe in the shell! (and the lack of space between patio and garage). One day John, you will learn that a mini is better and safer than a Reliant Robin!

Tuning and Preparation books
Clive Trickey - Tuning the Mini
A treasured little book which I have been reading since the 1960’s. When written this book refers to ‘rumours’ of a 1300cc non S engine to be fitted to the 1100 range! Thank you BMC for delivering on that one. All of us mini fans are eternally grateful. Prices have gone up a bit since then though. When referring to machining etc, Clive tells us that an engineer will carry out this work ‘for a few shillings’!
David Vizard – How to Modify your Mini/Tuning the A series engine
I bought ‘How to’ when it was first published back in 1976. Peter and I absorbed it completely. I have referred to it many times over the years and it has become my bible. As so often happens, in the 1990’s I lent it to someone and it never came back. (I hope the tea leaf that borrowed it enjoyed reading it while spending a little time at ‘Her Majesty’s pleasure’ Ha!). I searched all over for another copy when I started my project as it had been out of print for some years. I found a copy at an autojumble and loved reading it again.
The A series tuning book was a great help as with the introduction of the A+ engine and the advent of unleaded petrol many things have changed over the years. As have manufacturing techniques and ideas.
The Works Minis – Peter Browning
Remembering the Red and White legends, a book I bought in the 1970’s and have read it time and time again.
Sideways to Victory – Roger Clark
Bought at the same time as ‘The Works Minis’ (1976). I have read this book over and over again. Roger will always be a hero of mine and to many rally fans of my generation. He was wrong on one thing though. Towards the end of the book referring to Ford’s experiment with the Capri, he says ‘4 wheel drive doesn’t work on a rally car’. Hmmmm!
Bill Sollis – Preparing and Racing your Mini
Recommended by Mini Sport, this book although not about rallying gives many useful tips on making the most of your racing mini.
The MSA Blue Book
Without which a competition car could not be built. Thanks to Joe Hickerton at MSA technical for clearing up a couple of ‘grey areas’.
Haynes Manuals
Where would we be without these? And finally all the articles I have read on Mini’s in various publications over the years, notably CCC, Hot car, Mini World, Mini Magazine, Classic car weekly etc, etc.
